To Be Determined

In this concert, the HSO will tell a series of musical jokes. First up is the always affable and mischievous Mozart, with his Sinfonia Concertante for 4 solo woodwinds, featuring the principals of HSO. Then, local composer Peter Kay has a theatrical ode of Appalachia. Rounding out the concert will be Haydn's Farewell Symphony - where the orchestra leaves the stage, one by one until one final person is left to take a bow.

Strings Attached II

Following up from the success of last season's installment, this year's string-only concert will focus on dance. Centered around Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, we'll also explore tango and a little soul. Additionally, the under heralded violas will get their moment in Bach's famous, Brandenburg Concerto no 6.

Strings Attached - Chamber Orchestra

HSO’s second chamber orchestra concert is all strings, featuring some of the best pieces for string orchestra. Featuring Concertmaster Mary Irwin, the concert will present Bach’s famous Double Concerto alongside Clarice Assad’s, Suite for Lower Strings - an homage to Bach. Used in movies over the past half centuries, the Adagios by Samuel Barber and Tomaso Albinoni round out the concert with David Diamonds balletic Rounds for Strings closing the evening.

Classics Recomposed - Chamber Orchestra

The HSO leans into humorous sides of Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Mozart with its first chamber orchestra concert of the season. Starting the concert is Stravinsky’s cheeky Pulcinella Suite, which revisits music from the baroque period. Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony, a musical tease that evokes Haydn’s mischief, closes out the concert. Rounding out the program is Mozart’s exquisite Clarinet Concerto, performed by Ellen Breakfield Glick, making her HSO debut.
